Lost at Sea

Tossed above the waves as dross amongst refuse
Yet still I remain afloat
Crossed, the lovers’ stars become a woeful recluse
Existence once pleased, becomes bemoaned

Parched, and lips cracked for want of relief
Yet still I hang on to faith
A faith which abandons, ignoring beg of reprieve
Deterioration of a once stoic belief

A hopeful signal cast to the blackened heavens
Yet dissipating beneath the stars
That which lurks in the depths below beckons
Whether to my salvation or demise remains afar

Capsized, entangled, the tentacled sea-wretch subdues
Yet its clutches familiar as though mine
At my final, fading moment I reluctantly concede
The Beast that pulls me under is me
