Though Scars Remain

Here's a little something from the more God-revering side of me...

Youth
A quiet birth among the beasts, a babe escaping death
Fulfillment of the prophecies, a king among the briar
Apprentice learning from the master, wisdom in each breath
Trials of youth could not diminish the flame of destiny’s pyre

Ministry
To walk the earth without a home, or bed his head to lie
Trodden under foot of man, their cursings on the wind
Smitten, scourged, and spat upon until demise is nigh
Yet he journeys giving aid to those of ill and sin

Atonement
Whispering pleadings to the divine, his bitter cup to take
Whilst outside friends asleep at the watch, darkness clouds their minds
Raining blood from flesh to soil, the body’s frame ashake
“Nevertheless not glory nor deed of mine be done but thine”

Betrayal
Healing hands and tender words cannot escape their wrath
Evil hands to seize by night, a course bent on betrayal
A lethal kiss, a lamb of his fold, the devil’s angels laugh
And yet he offers healing hands to those who would assail

Crucifixion
Restrained upon a cross of timbers, enemies delight
Nails tear flesh with brutal blows to hands and wrists and feet
Hoisted with a crown of thorns, a pearl among the swine
A bruised and broken shell of a man, his spirit gives retreat

Resurrection
Of godly smoke and hallowed ash, the phoenix is reborn
Never again to taste of death, nor blood his clothes to stain
Immaculate as driven snow, raiment of kings is worn
Whole is that which once was torn, yet still the scars remain.
