Trust No One

Don't really remember where I was mentally when I wrote this one, but it was not a pleasant place from what I can tell from reading this.

blood is thicker than water
so they say
what does that mean anyway?
neither is fated to endure.
is a stain of dehydration superior than the scar of its previous scab?
water vaporizes
blood clots
trust no one

friendship becomes a chalk outline
under foot of the next “friend”
“best friends” are myths…
there are only better friends
secrets held by a trusted confidant are almost immediately divulged
to the better friend in an expression of trust
“look at the secret i can keep,
i only told you,
just don’t tell anyone i told you this”
it’s all so damn transparent once you are aware of the hierarchy of “friendship”
and where you place within it
every “friend”, at one point, has said
unkind,
untrue, or
unfaithful
things behind your back
to a better friend than you.
“sure, i like him,
just not as well as i like you,
i’m only saying these things because you are my ‘better’ friend”
or so the thought process goes.
and now you are expected to trust this person who is the judas to christ?
the operative word in trust being rust
the degradation and deterioration of friendship
trust no one

kinship becomes the new skin of second-rate creation.
“oh i see you’re bleeding.
here let me take care of that for you
with this repulsive scab.
don’t worry, its only temporary.
it will fall off and leave
a nice pink chunk of gristle
where your flesh used to be.”
does it matter if blood is thicker than water?
blood’s first instinct is to run
then when it realizes that death is imminent, it stands up and begins to
coagulate and crust over with
nastiness and resentment
bitterness and hatred
gossip and backbiting
but alas, in the end, a scar remains
long after the water has been
consumed by its own evaporatory demise
blood will indeed outlast water
but only after several masks have been put on
trust no one

and then there is love
easy enough to utter and proclaim
abandonment of the hierarchy of kith and kin for the one true love
“therefore shall a man cleave unto his wife and none else”
a cleaver: a brutal tool used in the separation of meat
coincidence?
love
the highest level of friendship and kinship
yet still not the “best friend”
there is still the remote possibility of a better friend to be made
a self-serving beast by design
adoration given
pales in comparison to
adoration received
wherein lies the beast of deception
it is a god-complex
not in the matter of power and control
but in the constant need for glorification
“praise me, adore me, worship me,
and if you don’t
i will destroy you and those associated with you”
infidelity of love is the ultimate act of betrayal.
abuse,
suicide,
murder
have been committed in its name
it is not the judas-christ treason,
it is abolishment and denial of the existence of god
trust no one

friends will betray
family will abandon
love will destroy
trust no one
